Home Learning

Home learning enables children to practise and consolidate skills they have been learning. It also deepens their current knowledge and understanding. That is why at Wickham Church of England Primary we have high expectations about home learning. Children at our school are set a variety of challenging and rich home learning activities. The table below shows the expectations for children in each key stage:

 

Expectations for Key Stage 1

Expectations for Key Stage 2

  • Reading every day
  • Phonics practice every day
  • Spelling practice every day
  • Maths activities and games on a rota basis from the library

Year 3, 4 and 5:

  • Reading every day
  • Spelling practise every day
  • Maths or grammar activity every other week

Year 6

  • Reading at least 3 times a week
  • Spelling practise every day
  • Maths activity every week
  • Grammar activity every week

Children may choose to supplement their home learning with any other topic learning.

 

We celebrate our children's home learning successes with certificates and house points.

 

If your child finds it difficult to complete their home learning on time, we run a 'catch-up club' on Thursday lunchtime.
